Why eCycle?

Computers and other consumer electronics are a growing part of the solid waste stream. With newer, faster computers and consumer electronics available, County residents need outlets to properly dispose of their old equipment. Computers, televisions and other electronic equipment can contain lead, mercury, cadmium and other toxic materials, which should be disposed of properly.

These items also contain valuable metals such as gold, silver and palladium that can be recycled through special programs.

Recycle your electronic items and #6 Styrofoam™ at the Alpha Ridge Landfill Residents' Convenience Center. Residents using the convenience center are required to show their driver's licenses as proof of residence in Howard County.

CDs & DVDs and Cases

Best Buy stores have FREE recycling collection for CDs & DVDs and cases. Or, visit Greendisk.com or cdrecyclingforfree.com for more information about mail-in recycling programs. Usable CDs or DVDs can be donated to your local library or charity such as Goodwill or The Salvation Army.

Game Consoles

Trade-in your old video games and consoles to get a credit for new items. Consider local game stores or visit EZtradein.com.

Ink Cartridges

Consider retailers such as Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Walgreens and the Post Office for ink cartridge take back programs. Office retailers may offer a coupon in exchange for used cartridges.

VHS Tapes

If you have usable VHS tapes, you might be able to donate them to your local library or charity such as Goodwill or The Salvation Army. Or, visit ACTRecycling.org, Greendisk.com or cdrecyclingforfree.com for more information about mail-in recycling programs.
